icons for drupal late night note collection
A late-night-cant-sleep write up of the idears about these icons n stuff
Now this text file have been laying at my blackbook since the flight home from oscms07, so i guess its about time to get it online or throw it out ....
Just to be clear this is a collection of thoughts and ideas and some of the work i have done on my own little icon set (and module)
They are posted in this uncomplete & filled with spellingerrors and shit now- cause i have been f*cking busy the last month and before were in barcelona saying cheers I thought it would be sweet to get this out. So 'ere we go
Theme
well hmm offcouse the icons must look as good as Salma hayek with the garland theme.
16 * 16px size just to keep it in a good size - and maybe some 32*32 for headings etc?
Use colors that blend in with the garland theme, but also looks good in a black background
offcourse well have to create other themes along the road, but first lets create one that works for a basic drupal site.
Icons drupal need
Well first up ill think we need to catagorize which basic icons we need to create for the different elements of drupal (when first the base is up its "easy" to create all the similar)

How to implement em in drupal
A simple stylesheet would be the easiest way: its easy to overwrite in the theme, and doesnt clutter up the html.
One of the things a modul schould do is to add some ids etc to the elements that needs icons, and offcourse take care of the language versions .... wow i allready did that how convinient ;)
Naming
Lets do it our own way!
The idea about using some existing namesceme is in my opinion nonsens, i know that some *nix geeks might find it convinient to use a existing naming scheme, but geeeez - were gonna clown around in the naming for the icons.
Lets call the icons what they do in drupal, and not what it does in *insert you own favorite OS / desktop system*
If the icon is created for a special module i would propose a scheme like MODULE_ACTION.png
view module: view_footer.png, view_header.png, view_fields.png ...
menu: menu_collapsed.png, menu_expanded.png, menu_leaf.png
sorting: sort_asc.png, sort_desc.png

What is licensing status of those icons you have provided?
Btw, nice :-)
Maybe they could be a bit bigger (24x24 px). Or maybe three sizes: 16x16px, 24x24px and 32x32px

Hi, I'm the owner of Iconizer Module (hosted in my.opera.com/thePanz) I'm moving my blog into this new web-site! (currently I have only one post, but I'll move all of my old content).
Thank you for your link, I'll let you know when I'll finish and update my module..
Bye! Greeting from Italy!

Caught the end of your lightning talk today, awesome work! One comment... maybe it's just me, but I find the icons rather low contrast. I have trouble distinguishing many of them easily. They look sexy but I think they'd be more useful if they were quickly identifiable.

Not *my favorite OSS* but a very good cross-anything icons/style collaboration has a nice naming scheme. Why reïnvent the wheel when Tango folks spent lots of time on it. That way, all you need to do, is point at their doc and say: that is the way we name our icons, live with it.
Rather then spending ten lines of text and examples and still not have it clear :)....

Loving your icons
I am using some of your icons for the theme I am building for SteamedPenguin.
Thank you very much as they fit the bill perfectly and add some color to a pretty black and white site.
